Yes it was Pizza By Candlelite, it's probably remembered better by that.
I'm not sure when they changed names,
maybe someone else can. I think it was in the late 60's or early 70's
the photo came from a 1969 school year book and the ad from a 1967 school year book.
Note: Also their was a Pizza By Candlelite at
Candler and College.
Were these two a chain/related ? That I'm not sure.

I believe this restaurant was in the shopping center next to Athens Pizza. Pizza by Candlelite was on the corner of Candler and College. Are you sure they were related?

Well I think they may have been a small chain.(not sure)

Maybe someone else will help us with that.
Were both locations named Pizza by candlelite ?

Pizza By Candlelite was very popular in the entire Atlanta Metro area in the 1960s/1970s.
First time I ever had a pizza with shrimp and anchovies.
It was very good.

I'm pretty sure Pizza by Candlelight was not a small chain but a one only restaurant at the corner of College and Candler across from Agnes Scott College. We ate their many times in the 60's and 70's. Not sure when it openend and closed, but at one point the space also housed Our Way Cafe before they moved to Avondale. I don't think this photo of the Candlelight Cafeteria has anything to do with Pizza by Candlelight, but I guess they could have been owned by the same individuals.

Pizza By Candlelight in Decatur was owned by the Scott family also of Decatur. I remember eating there on special occasions like birthdays, after the Jr Sr Prom at DHS, and when relatives came to visit. Havent been back to Decatur in many years, but I remember PbyC very well...then going to the DQ across the tacks for dessert

As a student at Agnes Scott in the sixties, I would escape to PbyC with friends to get off campus for a while. I think there was even a special dispensation for us to go there as it was technically off campus. Woe be to the student who brought a date there!

Pizza by Candlelight was owned by Joe Kellam (My dad) and Jimmy Slaughter. It was on the corner of College ave and Candler rd. There were two torches out front we lit every night. They opened about the same time as the Waffle House in Avondale. It was not a chain, but Joe also opened one in Marietta. I worked there for years, as well as my brother.

Thanks Cattyg1 for the info.
I think I remember it being a Pizza place in mid 70's
not sure of the name but it still had that large candle on roof.

I remember that place. They had the best pizza to me. My biological chromosome donor would take me there for quality time. I wished they were still open.

Actually Pizza by Candlelight and the Candle Light Cafeteria are different places. The Candlelight Cafeteria became the Sirloin Junction. I worked at the Junction in 1970 to 1972. I was hoping to find some pictures!

I went to Gordon HS off of Tilson Rd (class of 1967) and went to PBC for our prom dinners and such. "Pizza Jim" (he also rode a Harley Davidson) was well liked. I saw Joe Kellem, the owner, who had moved to Social Circle, GA and was working at the ACE hardware before he passed away. Before PBC was there, it was a gas station. Next door was Willie Bradford Barber Shop, then a furniture store that became a grocery, Thredgill's Pharmacy (later Watson Pharmacy), a beauty shop, a greasy spoon breakfast/lunch restaurant and then Bush Cabinet Company (Est.1952) next to the ally. I worked at Bush for years, then bought it from the family (1976) when Howard Bush died.
Where "Pop's Diner", Bush Cabinet and the beauty shop was is now Trackside Tavern. All of those buildings were owned by a dentist named Sid Cohen. Someone may want to contact him for early photos. Up the street was a Studebaker-Nash car dealership which became Atlanta Marble (made bathroom countertops) which is now Atlanta Kitchens in Avondale (Rio Circle). I hope this info helps some of you.

Hey John,
Willie Bradfords Barber shop was a building that was a stand alone building. Here are some links to some pictures I have.

Hey Joe, my wife Teresa also used to hang out there. Joe was her dad, and Shirley was her mom.
