Major Renovations are in store for 3 Decatur Buildings

The Decatur Fire Station No. 1 built in 1958 to get major renovations in early 2011


The fire department, recreation center and public works facility are going to get big renovations this coming new year. First up will be the 1950's Decatur Fire Department located at 230 E. Trinity Pl. the station will have all the interior gutted and rebuilt, showers, dormitory space for men and women, and geothermal heating will be part of the new station.

The other two building to get renovations are the recreation center and public works facility.

The city will have to issue about $13.8 million in municipal bonds for the projects, said City Manager Peggy Merriss.
