Investing in Decatur Youth Pays Off!

What if you could help a Decatur student have a life-changing experience? That is just what happened when Sarah Stubbs, DHS senior received a DEF Student EdVenture Grant for a service project in the Dominican Republic. After spending three weeks working with Haitian refugees, Sarah returned to Decatur determined to make a difference. Sarah then crafted her senior project to expand on the work she did during the summer. I am leading a group of five students and two teachers back to the Dominican Republic for a week in February. We will deliver water filters to families in the city of Ascension, where thousands of Haitian refugees live who cannot return to Haiti, but who are not allowed to go further in the Dominican Republic. Clean water is a critical problem there. The water filters can provide clean water for a family of 8. This group will assist in delivering the filters and become spokespeople for this cause upon their return. When you make a tax-deductible year-end gift to the Decatur Education Foundation, you make it possible for students like Sarah to pursue their passions and put their skills to use in the world outside of Decatur. Click here to make your year-end tax-deductible gift to the Annual Campaign for Youth of the Decatur Education Foundation so that more students can have experiences that enhance their education and DEF can continue to ensure that every child in our community has opportunities to reach his/her full potential. DEF board member Michael Baxter shares why he gives to DEF: The Decatur Education Foundation is the one organization vested in every child in our community. It supports novel approaches to teaching. It gives our kids new ways of seeing and experiencing the world. And for so many of our community's children, it helps ensure that nothing stands in the way of their education. That's why I'm involved. You can make your gift online or send a check to us at: 200 Nelson Ferry Road, Suite B, Decatur, GA 30030. Thanks and happy holidays! Gail
